As a typical Egyptian girl, Fava beans is my favorite dish. It is a very popular dish in Egypt and it is mostly served cooked in breakfasts or eaten raw. It is very cheap yet very nutritional. It is a good source of lean protein and helps with weight loss, because it always makes you feel full for a long time. Lately, I started to cut off meat and poultry from my meals, I eat them once or twice a week. So I am always looking for delicious vegetarian recipes. This dish is my all time favorite and the easiest one in busy days. I will share with you how I cook it, it is my grandmother’s recipe. So it is not only delicious but it brings all the childhood memories together whenever i cook it.
1 can of fava beans ( I couldn’t find the plain so I got this one, the peeled with secret recipe)
3 cloves of garlic
1 green pepper
1) Chop the garlic, tomato and the pepper together and add them to the pan with some olive oil.
2) After being sautéed, add the fava beans and the parsley and let them simmer for 3 minutes.
3) Add salt and pepper to taste. I added more chili powder.
We always eat it with pita bread or ( balady bread) as we normally call it.
